I am glad I found the poll to vote - sad to see there are only 20 votes so far, but all are yes so that's encouraging!

SoSmile, what do we have to do to get recycling to happen for all of Nassau County?

I also moved here (from the midwest). I was so suprised in such an enviornmentally sensitive area that there was no effort to make recycling easy and convenient.  I can tell you that for me this area is the most beautiful I have ever seen, but I have seen more people trash the enviornment here than i would ever see there.  If recycling is going to work it has to be convenient.

Darlene I too, agree with Betsy that recycling is a big issue, particularly in light of our problems with the land fill. If you have just recently moved here you might want to check the archives section of the local paper to read about the issues and their associated costs to the residents of Nassau County.

I have to take issue with you on "more people trash the environment here than I would ever see there." I've lived all over the country (Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, California, Mississippi, S. Carolina, etc) and I don't see anything more regarding trash than any of the other places I have lived.

I take particular exception to the reference of the "trash talking" deputy that labels the members of our community as "backward lazy southerners." It's simply not true. I've only been here about 17 years, but I trust, that once you are here a while longer you will discover how disingenuous that characterization of our residents was.

There was a recycling program  LONG ago.. maybe 10 - 15 yrs ago.. and they handed out BLue Plastic Bins and they were picked up....   It did not last long...   I agree there needs to be a Central location on the Westside of the County to Recyle.. and get some  PR out about it!

People Burn alot in Callahan.

Take notice, look around at the beautiful vacant land along Nassau River and other areas in Nassau County, preserve it now, or it will forever be lost.
