FERNANDINA BEACH – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Fort Clinch State Park will host Michigan based author and songwriter Bill Jamerson on Wednesday, April 2 at 6:30 pm. He will present an hour-long program about the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). The CCC was a federal work program created during The Great Depression which put young men in work camps across the country where they planted trees, fought forest fires, built state parks, roads, fish hatcheries and other conservation projects. Much of the restoration at Fort Clinch State Park was undertaken by CCC Boys.
Bill Jamerson wrote and produced a PBS documentary on the CCC, wrote a dozen original songs which he sings with his guitar and he also published a historical novel on the corps. His program includes stories about CCC boys he has met over the years, discussion of projects in Florida, original songs, and reading excerpts from his novel. His program is fun and entertaining for people of all ages.
Park admission is $5.00 per vehicle with up to 8 occupants. Please arrive early and bring your own lawn chair.
