Here we are, one month on the Sun side of the street. Not to gush, but you like us. You really like us.

Thanks for all the calls, comments and e-mails with both praise and suggestions for My Nassau Sun. There are more changes to come, including new regular features spotlighting the people of Nassau County, as well as additional community columnists sharing their thoughts and expertise.

We’ll also be inviting public officials to write columns in the paper outlining their stance on issues or explaining how government works. If there’s somebody you’d like to hear from in the pages of My Nassau Sun, call me at 261-7606, ext. 6352, or e-mail me at amelia.hart@mynassausun. com.

But the new format of the paper and the new features we’re planning to add to our regular mix of news and ultra-local coverage in an easy-to-use format is only half the story.

This is where you come in.

Along with the redesign of your newspaper, we have launched this new Web site, mynassausun.com. I'm glad you've ventured here to see what the site has to offer.

While a portion of mynassausun.com is devoted to sharing the best of My Nassau Sun, including news stories and columnists featured in the paper, it’s really all about you.

The goal is to provide a place where Nassau County can meet and talk with itself, kind of a grocery-store moment in cyberspace. A place where you share photos of family and friends from special events, like the birth of a new grandchild or a high-school graduation, and everyday moments, like you with that nice catfish you landed in the St. Marys River or a snapshot of your kids walking along the beach.

There also are blogs where you can post your thoughts on the issues of the day here in Nassau, comment on what’s happening in your neighborhood or tell people about your organization’s activities and goals. There’s also a community calendar where you can tell others about upcoming events at your church, club or neighborhood gathering.

And just as the best of My Nassau News is online, so will the best of mynassausun.com appear in print. Your photos and your comments will be published in My Nassau Sun where people will be encouraged to go to mynassausun.com and keep the conversation going.

Pretty cool, huh?

The first step is to log on to join the community here at mynassausun.com and start talking.
I

n the coming weeks, there will be lots of information in the Sun Central section in My Nassau Sun to walk you through the various features. This site also has tutorials to explaining the easy-to-use features.

Jonathan Bennett, our community content coordinator, is here to answer any questions you might have. He’s also available to come out to your organization and explain what mynassausun.com can do for you and our community. He can be reached at jonathan. bennett@mynassausun.com or (904) 359-4538.

So, go ahead, join mynasssausun. com, and let’s talk. You don’t even have to worry about what you’re wearing.

Welcome to the Sun side of the street.

Hi, I'm Amelia Hart, the editor of My Nassau Sun. I am excited to be here and even more excited you are here, too.

I hope you like the first issue of My Nassau Sun and the changes we've made to the paper.

The other big change is the addition of this Web site, which was created to be a place where Nassau County residents can meet and talk to each other.

I hope you'll take advantage of the opportunity to create a profile and join the conversation. Once you do, you can upload photos, add events to the community calendar and write a blog.

As part of the dialogue, selected photos and comments posted here also will appear in My Nassau Sun.

This blog, Sun Central, is the place to tell me what you like, what you dislike, what you'd like to see added and what you think you we can do better in My Nassau Sun and on mynassausun.com.

So, whadda think?
