But now the Seminoles face another tough team
FSU’s ways to salvage a season: 1. Upset a national championship contender. 2. Destroy the Heisman front-runner. 3. Dominate UF! Two of the three accomplished. This is where college football gets to be a real pain because of its unpredictability. FSU beats the No. 2 team in the nation and now faces another tough task against Virginia Tech. So we beat BC, and they beat VT, so theoretically, we should not have a problem, right? It should only be that easy. VT beat BC for 57 minutes until some last-minute heroics by Matt Ryan. VT, in my mind, is a better team than BC. Blacksburg is probably a little tougher than Boston when it comes to places to play. The tangibles were enough last week. This week, unfortunately, the only tangibles are the history and record against VT. While I did not make the trip to Boston last Saturday, partly due to weather forecast, fear of ticket prices and uncertainty that we truly would prevail, I opted for my couch and big screen instead. This gave me a chance to watch GameDay and its infinite wisdom. Lee Corso has a little of that Simon Cowell to him and his predictions. You either love him or love to hate him. Kirk Herbstreit luckily had that surgery removing himself from Tim Tebow or maybe Georgia had something to do with that. Virginia Tech has a little more speed and better athletes in my book. Again, we should be the underdog and out-matched on paper. I hope that is enough motivation for us. It would be great to win, but I just do not think it is as important to play the way we did against BC. The good news? We get Maryland next at home, fortunately (insert sarcasm here). This week I am going to bet that VT jumps out to an early lead. It will be tough, but I feel that if we pick up on their blitz package and somehow match their special team play, we might have a chance. Both defenses are pretty solid, so if you are looking for a track-meet, high-scoring game, this will not be the game for you. This was the biggest victory of the season and definitely of the week for the Smackdown crew. I could continue my ranting about last week’s big upset, but I am not. I am going to apologize now for my spat about UF last week. I was also wrong about GameDay. However, the information I had at the time was correct. Oregon/Arizona State in the dark made more sense. UF had a terrific game against Vandy. Maybe in the Georgia game, the Gators were just looking past UGa. UGa on the other hand looked like they were having some cocktail party hangover Saturday. Troy kept it interesting. LSU, you are welcome. Related: WDRodeffer's blog | login or register to post comments | printer friendly version | Tags: College Smackdown | FSU Seminoles | W.D. Rodeffer
