Amelia Island Jazz Festival

 Generous helpings of traditional, big band, be-bop, and Latin jazz cascaded throughout Amelia Island this past week, as the 2008 Les DeMerle Amelia Island Jazz Festival presented its strongest offering to date, thanks in part to a kind nod from the weatherman.  Festival organizers, along with a dedicated group of volunteers and appreciative audiences, could not have been more pleased with the quality of music and the picture perfect climate conditions. 

The Amelia Island Jazz Festival Board of Directors has decided to award a $1,000 scholarship. The scholarship is to be awarded to an outstanding high school graduate who has been accepted by an accredited college. Candidates are expected to be working toward a major or minor in music, preferably in the field of jazz performance or related area. Following this year's Jazz Festival, which will be held Oct. 5th through 12th , applications will be available at the festival's web-site, ameliaislandjazzfestival.com.
