Living History
Any of our regular MyNassauSun.com viewers have probably already noticed the change to the top, black menu bar. We've added another section, Living History. Clicking on that link will take you to our brand-new video page, with five short clips of Alice Nolan, the 100-year-old Fernandina Beach native. Alice recently sat down with My Nassau Sun Editor Amelia Hart and professional videographer Chad Watts to reflect on her life. Each clip is about a minute long, and we hope to continue adding other Nassau residents to the page, people who have a strong understanding of our community and how it's changed through the years. Nassau County History Blog
Nassau County has a rich history. Some of the stories and artifacts of more than 200 years of European settlement and hundreds of years of Native American settlement remain, but some are lost. Still more of the county's history is locked away in private collections and attics and in the stories of those who lived it. I'd like this blog to be a gathering place where people can discuss, present and connect pieces of the county's rich history. Of course, since I'm a reporter, I'll mine it for story ideas. I'll also look for interesting parallels between historic happenings and more recent ones. It seems sometimes even when you know history, you're condemned to repeat it anyway, but it IS better to know.
