Give Us a Pint Matey!

The Fernandina Pirates Club never had a blog before.  Since I am known as 'The Web Wench' it only seems proper for me to start keeping one of these here fancy blogs.

We are a pretty active bunch o' scallywags.  We just celebrated our 35th Anniversary with what we called, The Royal Ball.  Imagine 200 pirates enjoying a lovely evening while raising money for charity.  We done good!  Real good.   We had the Mayor of Fernandina Beach lead the conga line.  That Mayor of ours is one smooth operator and a good dancer too.  The City Manager Michael Czymbor and Councilman Eric Childers were seen having some fun too.  Everywhere you looked it was pirates and wenches havin' some fun.

The Fernandina Beach High School Pirates girls basketball team fell to Florida High 64-49 in the first round of competition for the state 3A championship in Tallahassee Thursday night.

Pirate point guard India Johnson and guard/forward Haley Tan both scored 14 points apiece.

"We played well, but the girls weren't ready for the pressure," coach Mike Landtroop said Friday. "Florida High was just a little more calm. We were up 11-5 in the first quarter and 20-19 after the first half, but they won state for the last two years. These girls have been there before."
